COMUNIDAD: La artista Bárbara Rivera exhibirá sus obras 'El arte y espíritu del Día de los Muertos' en Mt. San Jacinto College

SAN JACINTO – Bárbara Rivera se pone a pintar todos los días porque el hacerlo le da vida.

“Es mi pasión”, manifestó la hija de padre cubano y madre mexicana. “Cuando veo que casi es hora de salirme del estresante trabajo, me pongo feliz al saber que pronto estará en mi casa para ponerme a pintar”.

La artista es secretaria en una de las escuelas—San Jacinto High School—del distrito escolar de San Jacinto. Dicho plantel escolar cuenta con más de 2,000 alumnos, con la mayoría (1,646) siendo hispanos.

For San Jacinto artist Barbara Rivera, art is a family affair.

“Everyone has an important influence on my art,” said Rivera, 44. “My husband, Felix, is my framer, canvas stretcher and biggest fan. I pull so much strength and support from him. My son, Sebastian is my photographer. He manages my web page and is the spokesman for the family.”

Rivera goes on to explain that her daughter-in-law Izumi, Sebastian’s wife, is her seamstress. She helps create clothing for photo shoots and openings. Her son Jacob is her artistic consultant, providing critiques and advice. Her son Joshua is the business man for the family.

“My entire family plays a huge role in my art even if it’s making dinner or cleaning up so that I can have uninterrupted painting time,” she said. “It’s a group effort and I am forever grateful to each of them.”
